Overview

This course aims to inspire directors and senior managers and provide them with an understanding of their responsibility for the safety, health and wellbeing of people in their organisation.

Description

Health and Safety for Directors and Senior Managers is an interactive course that provides practical advice on effective leadership in health, safety and wellbeing.

The course is particularly important following the introduction of the new sentencing guidelines, which have seen multi-million-pound fines imposed on companies and an increase in the number of directors receiving immediate custodial sentences.

Learning outcomes

Learners start the course with a scenario-based exercise. Participants play the role of directors of a fictitious organisation where there has been a fatal accident. They discover the consequences of the accident for the organisation and for them as individuals.

Learners are then encouraged to reflect on the quality of the health and safety management systems in their own workplaces and their personal leadership in respect of health and safety. The course includes the latest think around mental health and wellbeing, and how to tackle work-related stress and presenteeism.

By the end of the course students will:

  • Understand the health and safety requirements placed on organisations and individuals
  • Understand how to reduce risks to people and the business
  • Understand how good health and safety will support the bottom line
  • Assess how well safety, health and wellbeing is being led within their organisation
  • Understand the latest thinking on wellbeing, mental health and stress management
  • Reflect on and identify improvements to their personal leadership in relation to health and safety.

Students finish the course with a personalised action plan to help implement the practices they learn.

At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
